Valentines Day Chocolate Making

There’s no gift more sincere for Valentine’s day than homemade chocolates. Come join us for a fun chocolate making and movie watching event in Edgerton on Sunday, February 9th, from 2-6 pm! We will be making chocolate truffles from melted chocolate bars shaped into creative forms. While waiting for the chocolate to harden, we will also be screening a movie. Light refreshments will be provided, including a small chocolate fountain! Main ingredients will be provided: chocolate bars (white, semi-sweet and dark), cream and butter, crushed nuts and cocoa powder. One fun thing about making chocolate truffles is that they are customizable, so feel free to bring any special flavoring, ingredient or mold to personalize your chocolates as well. Some examples are Baileys white chocolate truffles with coconut flakes, dark chocolate hazelnut pralines, etc.

Please bring your own containers to take the truffles home with you, and bring whisks and metal bowls/pots if you have them. Interested participants are encouraged to RSVP here so that we can ensure that we have enough chocolate for everyone.

All MIT grad students are welcome! Sponsored by Edgerton House and the GSC Funding Board.

Safety

In the event of a fire or other emergency in Edgerton, residents are directed to meet in a designated meeting area outside of the building. Therefore in an attempt to increase fire safety on the campus, MIT’s office of Environment Health and Safety has requested that each dormitory on campus post on its web site its assigned meeting locations.

Edgerton House also has volunteer fire marshals who help residents evacuate in case of an emergency. The mailing list for contacting the fire marshals is eh-fire at mit.edu.

Each dorm at MIT has two meeting places — one for “good weather” and another for inclement weather (rain, snow, bitter cold). For Edgerton House:

  • Good weather location: The sidewalk in front of the Warehouse (NW30).
  • Inclement weather location: The lobby of Sidney-Pacific (NW86).

In the event the building is evacuated for a fire or other emergency, please meet at the appropriate location. See the MIT Residential Fire Safety page for further details on campus fire safety.

Location

Starting from August 2008, Edgerton will be the on-campus graduate residence closest to the entrance of 77 Massachusetts Avenue (Lobby 7). Located on Albany Street, the walk to campus is only about 3 blocks.
